Consider Having Your Follicle Stimulating Hormone Tested When Trying To Have Children

by Freddie Cox

For many people trying to have a baby is frustrating. It seems that everyone around them is having a child, but they just are not able to become pregnant. This can be a tough time in life, but there are different things that can be done to help. One of the things that you need to do is to find out what is going on. It could be that something is going on with your hormones, or maybe something is going on with your partner's hormones. Either way, you need to find out what is holding you back from having a child. One way to find out what is holding you back is to have a follicle stimulating hormone (FSH) test. In women, this hormone will help control the menstrual cycle and production of eggs, while in men it helps with the production of sperm. Here is what to expect when getting your FSH test.

It Is A Blood Test

The first thing that you should know is that it is a blood test. Know that there is little risk when getting your blood drawn from a vein. The doctor is going to be able simply draw some of your blood and test it for the hormone. You may develop a bruise where the needle is put into your vein, or you may also experience a sharp pain when the needle first enters, but there is nothing different from this procedure than getting your blood work for anything else.

Your Diet Affects Results

In order to get the best results possible you are going to need to tell your doctor exactly what you have been eating and any supplements that you have been on. You will need to do this at least a month in advance. Some medicines, herbs, or foods can actually interfere with your test results. In order for you to have the most accurate test possible, you are going to want to make sure that you cut any of these substances from your diet before you take the test.

Your Menstrual Cycle Has an Impact

The results that you get will depend on your sexual development, and for women the results will be affected by your menstrual cycle. Therefore, it is very important for you to let your doctor know when the first day of your last menstrual cycle was. When you get your results back, you can expect a doctor to go over your results with you.

Coping with Chronic Health Conditions: Tips

Ever since I was a young girl, I have had bad asthma and allergies. I had to stay in the hospital several times when I was in elementary school just to help get my asthma under control and it seemed like I was trying medication after medication with little success. I don't remember all of my childhood health details, since I was so young, but my mother has "filled in the blanks" for me. Thanks to modern medicine and a natural remedy, my health conditions are currently under control and have been for a few years now. I am very grateful for my good health, and I want to "pay it back" to others by creating a blog where I will post my health tips. I hope I can help you learn how to achieve good health!
